About
Welcome! In the early days of the Internet, comp.graphicswas one of my favorite Usenet newsgroups where I discovered lots of interesting bits of information and discussions about computer graphics. Inspired by this newsgroup I created this site as a curated collection of articles, papers, books, tutorials, learning and programming resources, ranging across the entire spectrum between art and science.
It began essentially as a list of bookmarks. But then I wanted to make it easier for me to find articles again later, so I added summaries, key ideas, categories and tags. Maybe I will add a forum or community feature, perhaps a Discord server or Root in the future as well.
The site is aimed primarily at hobbyists, students, and developers who want to better understand how computer graphics works - from rendering basics and shaders to ray tracing, GPU programming, and modern graphics APIs. You may find fundamental topics in math, physics, optics, development related topics, performance, algorithms, engines such as Unreal or Unity, Web3D, ThreeJS, Blender, or other tools. I will also share works I find impressive and inspiring, for example from the demoscene where graphics, art, sound, cinematography and storytelling meet with coding on vintage or modern hardware.
What you can expect
- Foundational computer graphics concepts
- Programming articles and tutorials
- Rendering, lighting, shading, and ray tracing resources
- Graphics API topics such as WebGPU, OpenGL, WebGL, WebXR etc
- Interesting research papers, books, tools, and industry news
- Graphics software articles and tutorials, including Blender
- Game engines like Unreal Engine, Unity, and Godot
- 2D, 3D, VR, AR, XR, pixel, ASCII or ANSI art, every graphics topic is allowed :)
I hope you enjoy and will find this collection as helpful, interesting or inspiring as I did when I stumbled across these articles and videos.
